i just watched something real metaphorical last night on arts central. since it was screened on national tv, i don't see any harm repeating it here.
shots were taken from interviews with a botanist commenting on the Garden City project and a drama director commenting on the failure of the local Arts scene. it went like this, one after the other in the exact same sequence:
1.
botanist: we (the government) want to beautify the place by planting trees along the road.
director: they (the government) beautified the arts scene by building the Esplanade.
2.
botanist: we took the initiative to import trees from foreign countries instead of using local trees like angsana.
director: most of the shows at Esplanade are not local (imported). they are UFOs that come and stage their shows, and leave after sucking the money out of audiences.
3.
botanist: each tree is planted correctly.
director: singaporeans have been processed to become planted like trees of the same height.
the 3rd scene was to explain how there's this 'model singaporean' that everybody ought to be, and everybody will be copies of each other, which is compared to the plants which are of the same height.
this is roughly the gist of it. i really take my hat off to those who made the show. quite bold of them actually.
oh yes. take note: watch 300. don't watch the history boys if you're not british.

that's it guys. its officially 4 more days to horror. come to think of it, my hols are quite horrible already.
ah.. demented.
